Valid Grounds for Divorce in
Wyoming State
The divorce rate in Wyoming is 3.8 per 1,000 state residents.
Any dissolution of marriage starts with Complaint for Divorce, the initial document which requires that the grounds for the divorce be stated.
Wyoming Family Law does not provide for any fault-based grounds for divorce. So, the spouse filing for divorce (called the plaintiff) does not need to specify any misconduct of the second spouse, such as cruelty, desertion, criminal conviction of a felony, drug or alcohol addiction, adultery, etc., as the cause for the breakdown of the marriage.
As a purely no-fault divorce state, Wyoming recognizes only one ground for divorce - "irreconcilable differences." Thus, neither party must prove anything to get a divorce. Instead, it is enough to state that the spouses cannot get along enough to keep the marriage alive, and there's no chance for reconciliation.
